Helen B. Eick, a former Somerset town clerk, died Sunday in Newfane Inter-Community Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was 86.
Born Helen Bridgeman, she was a lifelong Barker resident. After graduating from Barker High School, she attended Bryant & Stratton Business Institute in Buffalo, attaining a degree in business administration.
Mrs. Eick was appointed town clerk in 1982 to fill the position held for many years by her husband, Donald, who died that year. She retired from the position in 1985.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Faith United Methodist Church and Methodist Women.
An avid reader, Mrs. Eick also enjoyed crocheting and cooking.
Survivors include a son, Walter of Gasport; three daughters, Nancy J. Labbe and Barbara A. Blais, both of Oswego, and Donna LaHaye of Cary, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held today in Faith United Methodist Church. Burial was in Somerset Cemetery.
