>Identity theft, forgery alleged in e-mail case

DUNKIRK -- Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies said they arrested a South Carolina man who is accused of using another person's identity to send a politically charged e-mail.

Stephen Ubaney, 40, of Rock Hill, S.C., is charged with forgery and identity theft. His arrest Saturday capped a five-month investigation.

Ubaney is accused of sending an editorial e-mail to a local newspaper, using the victim's name. The letter was published, they said.


>Girl beaten with a bat in attack by five adults

A juvenile girl was beaten with a baseball bat over in a weekend attack by three women and two men in the 400 block of South Park Avenue, police said.

The girl was being treated in Women and Children's Hospital for bruising, swelling and pain.

South District police said the attackers got out of a purple car and jumped her at about 3:15 p.m. Saturday.

The attackers hit her in the face with the bat and punched and kicked her several times in the face and body. The victim's mother took her to the hospital.
