Kenneth P. Olsen of Lancaster, a retired union ironworker, died Saturday in the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Cheektowaga, after a struggle with cancer. He was 58.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Lafayette High School and served in the Navy Seabees as a structural steelworker.
For 41 years, he was a union ironworker with Local 6 and worked on many major construction projects in the Buffalo area, including HSBC Arena. He retired last August.
A Master Mason with Livingstone Lodge 255, Free & Accepted Masons, and a member of Ismailia Shrine Temple, he received the Shriners Lifetime Service Award. He also was a board member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, the former Kathleen A. Heltz; a son, Kenneth A. of North Syracuse; a daughter, Kathrine P. Olsen Pietrowski of Brunswick, Maine; and a sister, Marsha Ryan of Little Valley.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Church, 55 Pleasant Ave., Lancaster.
