YWCA of the Tonawandas sets the table for Victorian tea

A spring Victorian tea, with participants encouraged to wear period clothing, will be given Saturday by the YWCA of the Tonawandas.

The event includes two seatings -- one at 10 a.m. and one at 2 p.m. -- at 49 Tremont St., North Tonawanda.

Tea will be served with traditional accompaniments that graced the Victorian table, including scones with Devonshire cream and lemon curd, assorted sandwiches, fruit and cookie favorites.

Travel back in time to discover what would make a Victorian lady blush but would hardly raise an eyebrow today. Secret ways to communicate, along with proper etiquette, changing fashion styles and the Victorian sense of humor and respectability, will be featured, as will the traditions and history of the tea ceremony.

Pre-registration is required. Tickets are $20 for members, $30 for non-members. Call 692-5580.
