Matthew W. Rutkowski of Niagara Falls, a former maintenance supervisor with the Niagara Falls Board of Education, died Thursday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a long illness. He was 78.
Born in Niagara Falls, he attended local schools and was a 1945 graduate of Trott Vocational School.
Mr. Rutkowski worked for the School Board for 40 years, retiring in 1991 as supervisor of heating, plumbing and electrical services. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Niagara Falls.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Eleanor Wojtowicz; a son, Matthew J. of Niagara Falls; two daughters, Linda Skotniski of Port Colborne, Ont., and Mary Ellen Mrzygut of Grand Island; a brother, Edwin, and sister, Annie Naradowski, both of Niagara Falls; six grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 5604 Lindbergh Ave., Niagara Falls. Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum, Lewiston.
