Cooking classes

Upcoming healthy cooking classes are set for the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County.

A class on the health advantages of whole-grain recipes will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 24. The class at 6 p.m. May 15 will feature a variety of recipes that can improve overall health.

Classes are held at 420 E. Main St., Batavia. Cost is $15 per person, due in advance. For more information, call 343-3040, Ext. 114.


A welcome return

Not only is Daffodils Restaurant, 930 Maple Road, Amherst, experiencing a rebirth under new ownership and management, it has also welcomed back executive chef Scott Donhauser, who held the position from 1998 to 2003.

During his hiatus, Donhauser was selected to be the food stylist for Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. He also assisted Jon DiBernardo of Water Street Landing and Le Metro fame.

Donhauser is introducing a new dinner menu, including: Port Wine Poached Scallops; Lamb Lollipops with Green Apple Salsa; Braised Salmon with Mustard Seed Glaze and Eggplant Citrus Caviar; and Duck Confit, as well as Daffodil's signature prime steaks and rack of lamb.

The restaurant also welcomes back Susan Larson as pastry chef and James Hockey as the banquet chef. Larson has put together a new dessert menu featuring her signature Coconut Rice Pudding with a Banana Spring Roll and Chocolate Chopsticks, as well as a Chocolate Torte with Espresso-Kahlua Chantilly and Toasted Hazelnut Brittle.
