Ruby Lee Ivey, a former bus aide, died Sunday in Erie County Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 58.
Born Ruby McKenzie in Foxworth, Miss., she moved to Buffalo as a child and graduated from East High School.
She worked as a bus aide from 1993 to 2003 for a transportation company.
Mrs. Ivey enjoyed playing tennis and home decorating.
A member of the EWHF Block Club, she was a mother figure to many in her neighborhood and was a member of Durham Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
Her husband, Charles Sr., died in 1970.
She is survived by four daughters, Christine D., Charlene L., Michelle R. Richardson and Aretha D. Richardson, all of Buffalo; a son, Kenneth of Maryland; seven sisters, Dorthy C. Smith, Linda Little and Ruth Ann McKenzie, all of Hattiesburg, Miss., Eddie Mae Preston-McKenzie of Columbia, Miss., Juanita Russel McKenzie of Port Gibson, Miss., Shirley Jefferson of Texas and Wanda McKenny Thompson of Prentiss, Miss.; five brothers, Ephersis McKenzie, Eddie McKenzie Jr. and Myjelouis McKenzie, all of Columbia; Ronnie Crumdy of Hattiesburg; and Darryl McKenzie of Pensacola, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Monday in Lombardo Funeral Home, 102 Linwood Ave., after a wake at 11 a.m.
