Rev. Joseph W. Trawinski, pastor Sept. 24, 1914 -- March 23, 2006

A Mass of Christian Burial for the Rev. Joseph W. Trawinski, a Franciscan priest who served in many area parishes, will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, St. Francis Drive, Athol Springs. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga.

He died Thursday in Father Baker Manor, Orchard Park, after a brief illness. He was 91.

The Buffalo native was a graduate of St. Francis High School. He entered the Conventual Franciscan Order in 1932 and made his profession of vows in 1933.

Father Trawinski studied at Franciscan seminaries in Krakow, Poland, and in Granby, Mass. He was ordained July 7, 1940.

He was secretary to the "Father Justin Rosary Hour" from 1954 to 1957 and served in a parish in Montreal for several years.

He also was pastor of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church from 1979 to 1985, parochial vicar of Corpus Christi Church from 1985 to 1987 and chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital in 1997.
