Christine "Clara" Michael, a retired cook and longtime Buffalo-area resident, died Tuesday in Bel-Air Manor, Newington, Conn., after a lengthy illness. She was 83.
Born Christine LaGreca in Buffalo, she attended Hutchinson-Central High School. She was the longtime "salad girl" in the kitchen of the Park Lane Restaurant and was a cook for the Sisters of St. Joseph convent.
She lived in the City of Tonawanda for 49 years before moving to Newington in January.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, John J.; a daughter, Mary Messana of Newington; a sister, Nancy Strano of Kenmore; a brother, Vito LaGreca of Stickney, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be scheduled in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 150 Broad St., City of Tonawanda.
