Robert Cartwright, highway superintendent Sept. 25, 1932 -- March 22, 2006

Robert E. Cartwright, a retired highway superintendent, died Wednesday in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. He was 73.

Born in Fillmore, he worked for the Town of Gainesville Highway Department for 36 years, the last few as superintendent, retiring in 1995.

Mr. Cartwright was a life member and past chief of the Gainesville Fire Department, a life member and past secretary of the Wyoming County Volunteer Firemen's Association, a life member of the Western New York Volunteer Firemen's Association and a member of the Wyoming County Highway Superintendents Association.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, the former Roberta Prentice; two sons, Larry of Gainesville and Kent of Portageville; a sister, Doris Sheffield of Warsaw; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Maple Grove Cemetery.
