Brian Pellegrini brought his home run bat, but little else went right for the St. Bonaventure baseball team Wednesday.
Pellegrini had two homers, a solo shot in the first and a three-run blast in the eighth, and knocked in all the runs for the Bonnies in an 18-4 loss to West Virginia at Hawley Field in Morgantown. Bona (4-5) had just five hits, with shortstop Josh Perkins (Niagara-Wheatfield), right fielder T.J. Pennino and designated hitter Tristan Mulcahy collecting the others.
Designated hitter Justin Jenkins had five of the 19 hits collected by the Mountaineers (16-3), who are on a 10-game winning streak.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE: Sophomore attack Brenna Houghton tied the school record with five assists and also added a goal as St. Bonaventure stayed perfect with a 16-10 victory over Marist, capping a four-game stay at Corning Memorial Stadium.
Midfielder Katie Hurley had three goals and two assists, while Stefanie Jordan and Katelyn Faas scored three times and Courtney Gibbons tallied two goals and two assists. Stephanie Garland led Marist (1-4) with three goals and an assist.
HONORS: Clarkson freshman Greg Chojecki (West Seneca) was named Liberty League Pitcher of the Week, allowing only one hit over two appearances totaling 4 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking none in earning two saves for the Golden Knights, who opened the season with a 3-2 record.
