Would-be Idols tackle tunes of the '50s

Barry Manilow's face makes a convincing case for aging naturally. Nice guy, apparently, but his plastic surgeon should go back to work for Tussauds.

Blossoming, big-time: Mandisa, in more sensible shoes, triumphed with "I Don't Hurt Anymore."

Karaoke city: Bucky's "Oh, Boy" was a big oh no.

Lukewarm: Paris Bennett went for cute rather than sultry on "Fever." The judges loved her, but she didn't hold a candle to Miss Peggy Lee. Katharine McPhee's good, but she's no Ella Fitzgerald.

Highlights: Chris Daughtry pulled off his edgy version of "I Walk the Line." Wearing white bucks made Taylor Hicks skip!

Who?: OK, some contestants weren't that familiar with Manilow's work. But Manilow, surprisingly, didn't know Patsy Cline's "Walking After Midnight" until Kellie Pickler belted the tune.

Who should go: Kevin Covais, as usual, but for the first time, Elliott Yamin didn't impress me.
