Robert E. Witnauer, typesetter, bank worker
Jan. 17, 1940 -- March 19, 2006

Robert E. Witnauer, a former Buffalo Courier-Express typesetter and M&T Bank employee, died Sunday in Sisters Hospital after a long illness. He was 66.

He worked for the newspaper from 1961 until it closed in 1982. He then worked as a statement processor at M&T Bank from 1984 to 2002, when he retired.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Witnauer attended St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute and Niagara University.

He was a member of the Citizens Advisory Group and volunteered at the Community Oriented Police Satellite station at Gloria J. Parks Community Center.

He was a 40-year member of St. Joseph University Catholic Church.

Mr. Witnauer enjoyed playing cards, horseshoes and golf.

Survivors include his wife, the former Frances Chinni; a daughter, Mary L. Crocker of the Town of Tonawanda; four sons, Michael E. and Matthew J., both of Prineville, Ore., John R. of West Seneca and William D. of Amherst; and seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Church, 3269 Main St. Prayers will be said at 9:15 in C. Mertz & Son Funeral Home, 911 Englewood Ave., Town of Tonawanda. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
