LeFleur flourishes in ECC wins

Erie Community College's Adam LeFleur (Clarence) had four hits in two games and saved the opener as the Kats (6-2) beat Garrett CC, 4-3, and South Maryland, 10-0, in Boca Raton, Fla., Tuesday.

Ryan Amos (Cheektowaga) allowed five hits in 6 1/3 innings and Matt Mankowski (Clarence) went 3 for 4 in the first game for ECC. Cris Magarian allowed five hits in the five-inning second game as Matt Saeva went 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

Elsewhere in baseball, Canisius third baseman Kevin Mahoney was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week. He went 8 for 20 with two homers in five games.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE: Alana Chan, Whitney Card and Erica Nasca (Hamburg) scored two goals each for Canisius (5-3) in a 13-8 loss at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Earlier, the MAAC named Card Offensive Player of the Week and teammate Ashley Gray Rookie of the Week. Card had 13 goals and Gray added 18 points as Canisius went 3-1 the previous week. . . . Senior Nicole Motondo of St. Bonaventure is the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after leading the Bonnies to three wins. She had 12 points in that span.

GOLF: St. Bonaventure's Josh Anderson was named medalist in the William and Mary Invitational, which was rained out Tuesday after one round in Williamsburg, Va. Anderson's 2-under 69 on Monday tied two other players for the lead, but he was declared the individual winner on a match of cards. Bona finished 15th of 22 teams.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Michael Rozek, John Kofmehl and John Colosi of D'Youville were named to the All-North Eastern Athletic Conference team. The three players were part of the squad that won the conference championship this past weekend by sweeping Bard College, 3-0.

SOFTBALL: University at Buffalo junior Sophie Barstad has been named Mid-American Conference East Player of the Week after hiting .393 with 12 RBIs. . . . Jennifer Yee of Niagara has been named MAAC Rookie of the Week for the third straight week. Yee hit .474 in the Bash at the Beach Tournament in Dover, Del.

SWIMMING: Jeff Hurst of UB was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team for the second straight year.

MEN'S TENNIS: Niagara sophomore Walter Garcia is the MAAC Player of the Week after winning two singles matches and playing on a winning doubles team.
