Orvis A. Nearhood, a former industrial worker, died Thursday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a long illness. He was 86.
Mr. Nearhood was born in Cooper, Pa., where he attended school.
He moved to Wetherfield Springs in 1951 and worked as an assembler at Lapp Insulator Co. in Le Roy, for 17 years. He retired in 1981.
Following his retirement, he moved to Interlachen, Fla. He returned to Warsaw in 1994 and moved to Sanborn in 2005.
Mr. Nearhood enjoyed carpentry.
His wife, the former Dorothy Hawes, died in 1995.
Survivors include four sons, Michael of Rochester, James of Springville, Larry of Interlachen and Raymond of Gainesville; two daughters, Laura Gross of Olean and Pamela Dickes of Avon; a sister, Evelyn Clunie of Amherst; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
