Marie C. Kinnen, active volunteer <br> June 18, 1929 -- March 15, 2006

A Mass of Christian Burial for Marie C. Kinnen, a retired sales associate, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 1 St. Mary's Hill, Lancaster. Burial will be in Lancaster Rural Cemetery.

Mrs. Kinnen of Cheektowaga died Wednesday in Erie County Medical Center from injuries suffered in a car accident on March 3. She was 76.

Born Marie White in Toronto, she graduated from high school there.

She married Harvey Benard in 1947 and moved to the Buffalo area in 1950. She worked as a sales associate in the catalog department at J.C. Penney from 1978, until retiring in 1992.

Her husband died in 1989.

In 1992, she married Richard Kinnen, who died in 2003.

Mrs. Kinnen was a member of a senior citizen club that made dolls for Roswell Park Cancer Institute's "Children Battling Cancer" program.

She volunteered at Sacred Heart Brothers of Mercy and as an usher at the Lancaster Opera House. She was recently nominated for a United Way award for her volunteerism.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Benard of Buffalo, Cindy Benard of Cheektowaga and Renee Benard of Lynchburg, Va.; a son, Harvey of Orchard Park; two stepdaughters, Janice Curlee of Houston and Kathleen Kinnen of Newington, Conn.; a sister, Gloria Wright and a brother, Arthur White, both of Toronto; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
