February acted more like winter

After an unusually mild January, Western New York?s February weather was more seasonal.

Mainly because of a warm first week and few brief warm-ups later in the month, the average temperature was about 2 degrees above normal, at 27.8 degrees.

Snowfalls were typical for the month: frequent but not heavy. For the month, 26.3 inches fell, the most for a February here in 11 years.

The month's two major weather events were windstorms. On the fifth, winds gusted to 52 mph, and on the 17th, a change in weather systems brought high winds and a drop in temperature from a record high (for the date) of 61 degrees in the early morning to 23 by the evening.
