Richard VanDette, DOT foreman, veteran Feb. 3, 1920 -- March 14, 2006

Richard VanDette, of Collins Center, died Tuesday in Gowanda Nursing Home. He was 86.

Born in Dunkirk, he served in the Army during World War II.

Mr. VanDette was a retired foreman and dispatcher for the state Department of Transportation, Hamburg. He was a member of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, Collins Center.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, the former Josephine Barreca; a son, Richard L. of Getzville; two daughters, Kathleen Goforth of New Bern, N.C., and Lauri Skelton of Springville; a brother, Raymond of West Seneca; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered today in St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, Collins Center. Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Silver Creek.
