Ruby Roberson, a retired assistant director of nursing at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, died Monday in Albany Medical Center after a long illness. She was 79.
Born Ruby Dixon in Charlotte, N.C., she moved to Buffalo in 1946 and received a bachelor's and a master's degree in nursing from the University of Buffalo. She also had a bachelor's degree in biology from John C. Smith College in North Carolina.
For more than 25 years until she retired in the late 1980s, Mrs. Roberson was the assistant director of nursing at Roswell Park.
She moved to East Greenbush in 2002 and was a member of Metropolitan New Testament Missionary Baptist Church, Albany.
She was the widow of Lavon Roberson.
Survivors include a son, Robert Massey Jr. of East Greenbush, and a grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Free Spirit Baptist Church, 62 Titus St. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery, West Seneca.
