A service for John "Red" Reichert Jr., a former Marilla councilman, was held today in St. Nicodemus Lutheran Church, Marilla. Burial was in Marilla Cemetery.
Mr. Reichert died Sunday in his Marilla home after a long illness. He was 78.
Born in North Collins, he graduated from East Aurora High School and served in the Army from 1946 to 1949.
He was transportation supervisor of Iroquois Central Schools from 1957 until retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Marilla Town Board from 1978 to 1990 and formerly owned and operated Sheldon Hotel.
Mr. Reichert was a Kiwanian and a life member of Marilla Fire Company. He coached Little League baseball in Marilla and Wales.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy M. Offhaus; a daughter, Melanie Husselberg of Marilla; four sons, James and Randy, both of Marilla, John of Wales and Rick of Elma; a sister, Katherine Hodges of Marilla; and 16 grandchildren.
