A Mass of Christian Burial for Elizabeth R. Reformat, a retired secretary and energetic church volunteer, will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrew Catholic Church, Reiman and Crocker streets, Sloan. Burial will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Lancaster.
A Sloan resident for more than 50 years, Mrs. Reformat died Tuesday in St. Joseph Hospital, Cheektowaga, after a brief illness. She was 79.
The former Elizabeth Zemko was raised in Buffalo's Old First Ward, graduating from South Park High School. As a young woman, she worked as a secretary at F.N. Burt Co. and as a sales clerk at the Franklin Simon store in Thruway Plaza, Cheektowaga.
From 1971 until her retirement in 1989, she worked as a secretary for the Cheektowaga Central School District.
Mrs. Reformat was a longtime volunteer at St. Andrew Church, working in the kitchen for bingo and other events. She was a member of the church's Mothers Club and the Bingo Workers Club. She also was an active member of the Sloan Senior Citizens Club.
She was known for her kindness. Despite her illnesses in recent years, she often drove older and more frail friends to medical appointments and grocery shopping.
Mrs. Reformat enjoyed bowling, reading books and newspapers, taking long morning walks and cheering for the Buffalo Bills.
Her husband of 43 years, Raymond R., died in 1990.
Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Hertel of Clay, Anne Marie Gorlewski of West Seneca and Joyce V. Herbeck of the Town of Tonawanda; a brother, Anthony of Sloan; six grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
