>Ex-Dunkirk firefighter spared jail time
MAYVILLE -- The former Dunkirk firefighter accused of secretly videotaping fellow firefighters in their dressing room last year will not serve any jail time.
Chautauqua County District Attorney David Foley said Mark Kania, 53, of East Lake Road, was sentenced to five years' probation in County Court on Monday. Foley said Kania pleaded guilty to second-degree unlawful surveillance.
"The individual had no prior history. It was a low-grade felony. I'm satisfied and happy with the results," said Foley.
Kania was arrested last year for allegedly setting up a camera in a bunk room at one of the city's fire halls.
Foley said Kania has agreed to retire after 30 years of service.
