Marie Smith, a former nursing assistant, died Thursday in her Buffalo home after a long illness. She was 77.
Born Marie McCreary in Charlotte, N.C., she graduated from West Charlotte High School.
She moved to Buffalo in 1955 and worked as a health aide for EGW Temporaries and at the Fire Survival Center, retiring from the health field in 1999 and from the center in 2000.
She was a member of the House of Ruth social club.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Oscar; five daughters, Linda Hwale and Yevette M. Beavers, both of Buffalo, Michelle Wilson of Clinton, Md., Cecilia Griffin of Niagara Falls and Karen Detrick of Pittsburgh; three sisters, Dorothy Davis, Vivian Cheney and Jacqueline Hunter, all of Buffalo; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Prince of Peace Temple Church of God in Christ, 669 Kensington Ave. Burial will be in Forest Lawn.
