>Public straw poll possible on school annexation
ELLICOTTVILLE -- A public nonbinding straw poll on the Ellicottville Central School District's annexation of the West Valley Central School District could be authorized by the Ellicottville Board of Education tonight.
The two districts, both experiencing higher property taxes, declining enrollments and increasing costs, formed committees three months ago to oversee a feasibility study by the Western New York Educational Service Council at the University at Buffalo.
The Ellicottville Board tonight will consider setting an April 4 straw vote to gauge public opinion on annexation. The public is invited to hear a presentation on the study and to air comments at 7 p.m. next Tuesday. The forum will be held in the Ellicottville Central School elementary gym.
Today's meeting is scheduled at 7:30 p.m.

FREDONIA -- Village residents will have a chance to here about the 2006-2007 budget proposal at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Village Hall.
The Village Board will hold a general workshop session at 6:30 p.m.
Also Monday, officials announced that a joint meeting of the Dunkirk City Council and Fredonia Village Board will be held after Council's regular meeting next Tuesday. The two boards will discuss the feasibility of housing both the Dunkirk and Fredonia police departments in one building.
