Roger A. Mazikowski, Amherst teacher May 12, 1973 -- March 10, 2006

Roger A. Mazikowski of Williamsville, a teacher at Amherst Middle School, died Friday in Roswell Park Cancer Institute after a battle with leukemia. He was 32.

The Buffalo native was a graduate of Amherst High School and had a bachelor's degree from Buffalo State College.

He had been a teacher at Amherst Middle School for two years.

An avid sports fan, he also collected sports memorabilia.

Survivors include his wife of six years, the former Emily K. Hull; a daughter, Sophia K., at home; his mother and stepfather, Holly Sweeney and Randy Dievendorf of Amherst; his father, Roger P. of Amherst; and two sisters, Laura of Falmouth, Maine, and Rachel of Town of Tonawanda.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today in Amigone Funeral Home, 5200 Sheridan Drive, Amherst.
