Canadian police seek 2 in Falls, Ont., slaying

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. -- Niagara Falls Regional Police were looking for two men suspected in Wednesday's slaying of a 33-year-old man.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Lloyd "Butchie" Orman, 25, and Shilo Beals, 22, both of Niagara Falls, police said Saturday.

Both are being sought in the death of Phillip Simmons of Niagara Falls, who was shot Wednesday while attending a party in the city on Malibu Drive. Simmons died in the hospital the next day.

Orman is wanted on a second-degree murder charge, while Beals is wanted on a weapons charge, police said. Both are considered armed and dangerous.


Anger over smoking results in charges

WELLAND, Ont. -- A 29-year-old woman wasn't just blowing smoke when she said she was upset about her neighbor's smoking habits.

Heather Jones was so enraged by her fellow tenant's cigarette smoking that she confronted the man late Friday and sprayed him in the face with a can of "dog repellent," Niagara Regional Police said.

That got Jones, who lives in a three-unit apartment building in Welland, in hot water with police, who said they arrested her on assault and weapons charges. She was issued an appearance ticket for Welland Court and released.


Reports of woman jumping into river investigated

Authorities in Western New York and in Canada investigated reports of a woman who may have jumped into the Niagara River.

Several witnesses said they saw a woman at the water's edge at Prospect Point at about 11:50 a.m. Friday, according to State Parks Police in Niagara County.

No one saw her jump, according to investigating officer James Cudeck.

The U.S. Coast Guard and the Erie County Sheriff's Air Unit conducted searches of the area and Ontario Park Police searched the Canadian side. In addition, State Parks Police continue to patrol the area.


Man with gun steals SUV on York Street

A 26-year-old Buffalo man had his SUV stolen at gunpoint early Saturday on the West Side.

A man with a gun confronted the victim just before 1 a.m. as he got out of his vehicle on York Street, according to Buffalo police reports.

Witnesses reported seeing the gunman pick up the keys and drive off in the 2003 Buick Rendezvous.


Drug shipment intercepted, Falls man is charged

NIAGARA FALLS -- City narcotics investigators said they intercepted a drug shipment Friday afternoon, arresting an Eighth Street man after he took delivery of 13 pounds of marijuana.

Craig R. Leslie, 31, of Willow Avenue, was arrested just after 1 p.m., after the package had been delivered to an Eighth Street address, police said.

Leslie was charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
