Fund-raisers will rock to aid hospital OB ward
NEWFANE -- Hospital supporters will stage their first "Rocking for Babies" event Friday in Inter-Community Memorial Hospital to help finance the remodeling of the hospital's obstetrics ward.
The hospital auxiliary's Barton Branch will collect pledge sheets and money from those willing to rock in a rocking chair for a half-hour in the hospital lobby that day. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"We thought this would be a different way to raise money at this time of the year; you never know what the weather will be like for a walk-a-thon," said Linda Andrews, an auxiliary member and pharmacy technician at the hospital. "If people can't participate, they may also mail in checks to the hospital."
Pledge sheets are available by calling the hospital at 778-5111, Ext. 226 or 570. Pledge sheets and money will be collected at the event.
The hospital, at 2600 Williams St., is doing a $500,000 remodeling of its OB ward. The newly remodeled ward will feature two rooms for labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum; and two private rooms and one semiprivate room to accommodate surgical cases.
