Walter "Guy" Biro, a former volunteer firefighter and chemical operator, died Thursday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a short illness. He was 60.
The Niagara Falls native attended local schools. In the early 1960s, he served in the National Guard.
He worked eight years in the 1970s as a chemical operator at Browning-Ferris Industries, retiring in 1979 because of illness. He was a former member of Niagara Active Hose Company.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, the former Donna Alvarez; a son, Duane, and a daughter, Andrea Gornicki, both of the Town of Niagara; three sisters, Nancy Kay of St. Catharines, Ont., Dolores of Buffalo and Debbie of Appleton; four brothers, William of the Town of Niagara, Gerald and Paul, both of Niagara Falls and Steven of Niagara Falls, Ont.; and three grandsons.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Otto Redanz Funeral Home, 2215 Military Road. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
