Florence R. Curley, a former nurse's aide, died Thursday in Hospice Buffalo's Kresge Residence, Cheektowaga, after a short illness. She was 83.
Born Florence John on the Six Nations Reserve near Brantford, Ont., where she attended school, she later attended Mohawk Institute in Brantford.
Mrs. Curley moved to the Tuscarora Indian Reservation in the late 1930s.
She was a nurse's aide at Ransomville General Hospital and later at the Mount View Health Facility, Lockport, for 15 years. She retired in 1987, but later worked as a home care aide.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Morrell of Niagara Falls and Paula Curley of the Six Nations Reserve; a son, Marc "Gus" of the Tuscarora Reservation; a sister, Hilda Henry of Six Nations; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn. Burial will be in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery.
