D. Michael Rynne, electrical engineer
March 27, 1943 -- March 4, 2006

A Mass of Christian Burial for D. Michael Rynne of San Jose, Calif., a Buffalo native, will be offered Tuesday in St. Lucy's Catholic Church, Campbell, Calif. Burial will be in Los Gatos Memorial Park, San Jose.

Mr. Rynne died last Saturday in Stanford Hospital, Palo Alto, Calif., after a year's struggle with cancer. He was 62.

Born in Buffalo, he earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University at Buffalo and served in the Army National Guard.

Arriving in California at the start of the electronics boom in Silicon Valley, he was a key member of the engineering staff at Monolithic Memories, which merged with Advanced Micro Devices in 1987. At AMD, he was in charge of process transfers to foundries worldwide and traveled extensively.

Described by his lifelong friend George Hunter of San Jose as a spiritual seeker, he also traveled to religious and cultural landmarks around the world.

Surviving are a son, Eric of San Jose; a daughter, Briana of San Diego; his mother, Colleen; and a sister, Diane, both of Medford, Ore.
