Attempted murder charged for aiming gun at trooper

ALMOND STATION -- A Steuben County man faces charges of attempted murder of a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon after allegedly raising a gun at a state trooper responding to a domestic violence call early Thursday in Almond Station in Allegany County, State Police reported.

Keith S. Burdick, no age listed, of Hartsville was seen through a rear window by Trooper Edward W. Evanoff.

Burdick was loading a long gun as police approached at about 12:45 a.m. Evanoff alerted his partner, Trooper Christopher J. Waiss, who approached the house from the front.

At that time, police said, Burdick raised the gun at Waiss, who took cover and ordered Burdick to lower the weapon.

Burdick later surrendered to police after a negotiation. No injuries were reported.

Burdick was arraigned and taken to Steuben County Jail on $100,000 bail.
