Peter P. Gutowski, a longtime partner at KPMG in Buffalo, died Sunday in his Sarasota, Fla., home after a brief illness. He was 63.
Born in Amsterdam, Mr. Gutowski moved to Sarasota in 2004 after living for 35 years in Buffalo.
A graduate of Le Moyne College in Syracuse, where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting, Mr. Gutowski joined KPMG's Syracuse office in 1968 and transferred to the Buffalo office in 1972.
In 1975, Mr. Gutowski was elected a partner of KPMG, where he specialized in serving financial institutions and public companies.
After retiring from KPMG in 1995, Mr. Gutowski worked two years in Washington, D.C, with the accounting division of the Securities and Exchange Commission. He then became an SEC specialist for HSBC Bank USA in Buffalo, then chief financial officer of Life Sciences in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he was employed at the time of his death.
Mr. Gutowski was a longtime member of Park Country Club, where he enjoyed golfing. An avid card player, he especially enjoyed gin rummy.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, the former Sandra M. Grey of Sarasota; two daughters, Amy L. and Leslie A., both of Alexandria, Va.; a son, Peter J. of Kenmore; and three grandchildren.
A memorial Mass was offered Thursday in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Sarasota.
