Cindy Miller, who teaches out of the Wehrle Golf Dome in Williamsville, has been named one of the top 50 golf instructors in the country by Golf For Women magazine. Information about Miller's teaching is available at www.cindymillergolf.com.

More than 1,300 athletes will be competing in the New York State YMCA Swimming Championships on March 17-19 at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center pool.

The meet will comprise 90 events over the three days. The Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Western New York YMCA Swim League are the host organizations.

BASKETBALL: A double-elimination tournament for two divisions -- fifth-sixth grades (12-under) and seventh-eighth (14-under) -- will be held March 24-26 at Gloria J. Parks Community Center. Open tryouts for the Buffalo Defenders girls AAU organization will be held 10 a.m. to noon March 11-12 at St. Mary's School for the Deaf, 2253 Main St. Girls trying out must be 15 or 16 as of Jan. 1, 2006. MARTIAL ARTS: The 23rd annual Niagara Falls USA Karate/Tae Kwon Do/Kung Fu Championships will be held March 18 at Niagara University. Competitors from across the U.S. and Canada will compete in various divisions for world ratings and have a chance to qualify for Team America. SOFTBALL: South Buffalo Softball will be accepting men's, women's and coed registration for the 2006 season Tuesday and Thursday.
