Driver faces charges following police chase
DUNKIRK -- A Dunkirk man faces several charges after attempting to elude police trying to arrest him on a felony drug warrant at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
Walter S. Duprey, 21, of North Main Street was charged with assault, two counts of resisting arrest, unlawful possession of marijuana, felony unauthorized use of a vehicle and two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Police said the chase began near Franklin Avenue and Main Street and ended at Talcott Street and Franklin. Officers said Duprey fought with them before being subdued.
During the chase, Duprey also jettisoned several small packages containing more than quarter of an ounce of cocaine with a street value of about $1,200, police said. They also reported seizing an undisclosed sum of cash.
Duprey was being held in Dunkirk City Jail pending arraignment.
