George W. Manquen of Cheektowaga, a retired restaurant owner, died Wednesday in St. Joseph Hospital, Cheektowaga, after a brief illness. He was 89.
Known as "Buddy," Mr. Manquen was born in Buffalo and attended Seneca Vocational High School. He was an officer with the Buffalo Police Department for five years during the 1940s, then left police work to join ownership in the family business, Heusinger's restaurant.
Mr. Manquen retired in 1980, when the business was sold.
He owned harness race horses during the 1960s. Mr. Manquen was a member of the Restaurant Owners Association and the senior citizen group at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
His wife, the former Bernice Blendinger, died in 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Parent of Lancaster; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 4125 Union Road, Cheektowaga, following prayers at 9 in Urban-Amigone Funeral Home, 3645 Genesee St., Cheektowaga. Burial will be in Eden at a later date.
