Boathouse benefit

The Rotary Club of Buffalo plans to present a Wine of the World event to benefit the Frank Lloyd Wright's Rowing Boathouse Corporation. The benefit is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. next Friday in the Statler Ballroom, 107 Delaware Ave.

Wines from Australia, Europe, South America and North America will be featured, and local restaurants will offer hors d'oeuvres to complement them.

The participating restaurants include: the Park Lane, O'Connell's Hourglass, Brodo, San Marco, Wegmans, Hutch's, Harry's Harbour Place Grille and Oliver's. A food item auction is also on the agenda.

Tickets are $50 a person and may be purchased at Wegmans or through Rotary Club members. For more information, call 743-7550.


Smokey spotting

Darden Restaurants, owner of Olive Garden and Red Lobster, will open a new Smokey Bones Barbeque on Feb. 28 at 4120 Maple Road, Amherst.

Specialties include barbecue and other American favorites, sandwiches and salads. Entree prices range from $6 to $19. TV screens throughout the building show sports, and individual tabletop sound controls are positioned on every table.

The restaurant will serve only dinner on opening day, beginning at 4 p.m. Beginning March 2, it will start serving lunch, with operating hours 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Smokey Bones also opened at 2007 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga, in the fall.


Cuvee Gala

Cuvee Weekend, described as a "red carpet wine and food experience," will be held in Canada's Niagara wine region the weekend of March 3 through 5.

Tastings will be held at various wineries. The highlight of the weekend will be the Cuvee Gala, to be held Saturday evening at the White Oaks Resort and Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., where the chefs of the region will prepare glamorous food.

They include Jason Parsons of Peller Estates Winery, Michael Price of LIV Restaurant, David Chrystian of Joy Bistro, J. Mark Hand of the Niagara Culinary Institute at Niagara College, Avi Hollow of 17 Noir, Erik Peacock of the Wellington Court Restaurant and Claudio Mollica of Casa Mia Ristorante.

Tickets, $200 per person (Canadian funds), include admission to the gala and all weekend activities. Visit for more information.
