Tuesday's American Idol was full of drama, as usual. Here's one take on the show:
Top "never mind" moment: When Derrell Brittenum quit, huffing at Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, "We'll see you at the top," while laboring under the mistaken impression that his twin Terrell had been cut. It's that kind of good judgment that got the Brittenums charged with fraud after this taping.
Speaking for America: Simon laying it all out for the Brittenums, saying, "I am fed up over your hissy attitude!" But then the judges backed down, taking the temperamental twosome back into the fold.
It's all about me: Tyra Juliette Schwartz jumping groups and then jumping back. It was a classless move, but it paid off: The three in the group Schwartz joined and then bolted all got sent home; her original group all got accepted.
"I wish I knew how to quit you" moment: The hilarious "Brokeback Mountain" movie trailer parody highlighting three very over-their-heads cowboys, including clueless cutie Garet Johnson. After the cuts and the tears, Johnson said, "In a few years I might become something." A cynic chimed in, "Yeah, an old cowboy who still can't sing!"
Tonight at 8 p.m. on Channel 29: The 44 remaining contestants are whittled down to the final 24. The drama! The tears! The lyrics butchered!
