Samuel L. Pickens of Buffalo, a cook, died Monday at home after a long illness. He was 66.
Born in Birmingham, Ala., he moved to Buffalo in 1945 and was a graduate of Bennett High School.
Mr. Pickens was a cook at several area restaurants, including Uncle Eddie's and the Lamplight Bar and Grill.
A football player and track athlete in his youth, Mr. Pickens loved watching sports of all kinds.
He is survived by four sisters, Lula Peoples, Earlee Dawson, Denise Smith and Teresa Haggert, and two brothers, Issac and Gentle, all of Detroit.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lombardo Funeral Home, 102 Linwood Ave.
