Garden Notes / News from area clubs and other events

The East Aurora Garden Club will meet at noon Monday at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 374 Main St., East Aurora. The program, "All About Tables," will be presented by Elaine DiPietro, Chris Hartmann, Joan Kucio and Florence Mergenhagen.

Mary Lou Chamberlain will present "Basic Flower Design" at 7:30 p.m. Monday to the Smallwood Garden Club, Northeast Branch YMCA, 4433 Main St., Amherst. Visitors welcome.

The Kenmore Garden Club will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Kenmore United Methodist Church, 32 Landers Road, Kenmore. Ron Moline, Town of Tonawanda supervisor, and George Melrose, chairman of the town's Environment Commission, will present civic awards to members. Highway Superintendent Brad Rowles will speak about trees in the town; Parks Maintenance Superintendent Robert Kingston will discuss its flower beds.

The African Violet & Gesneriad Society of Western New York will gather at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Depew High School cafeteria for dinner and a design session. Regular meeting begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Evans Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Angola Public Library for a seed exchange and seed catalog swap. For more information, call 947-5443 or 947-4050.

The Ken-Sheriton Garden Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 576 Delaware Road, Kenmore. Peter Martin will present a lecture/demonstration on orchids. Creative design: "Burnished Copper." Guests welcome.

The Federated Holland Garden Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beaver Meadow Center, 1610 Welch Road, North Java. Members can hike, snow-shoe or ski the trails. Following a business meeting and luncheon, Bill Hudson, naturalist and director of the center, will speak on ferns.

The Western New York Rose Society will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in St. Stephen's Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 750 Wehrle Drive, Amherst. Program: selecting and properly planting roses. Free; all welcome. For more information, contact Dave Swanka at 833-5549.
