Frederick F. Hawco, a retired heating contractor, died Thursday in his West Seneca home after a long illness. He was 82.
Born in Halyrood, Newfoundland, Canada, he moved to Elma 40 years ago and to West Seneca two years ago.
He served in the Merchant Marines from 1939 to 1945 and then was in U.S. Coast Guard from 1946 to 1948.
Mr. Hawco owned Kleen Heat Maintenance, a heating contracting company.
He was a hockey coach for two teams, including the Depew Saints, in the mid-1970s.
Survivors include two daughters, Bella of Los Angeles and Janice Wilton of East Aurora; four sons, Gary of Varysburg, F. Michael of Orchard Park, James of West Seneca and Stephen of Hamburg; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in St. Michael's Cemetery, Dunnville, Ont.
