A RETIREMENT PARTY for Robert E. "Bob" Chella, who spent the last nine months of a 35-year career with the Buffalo Police Department as a deputy commissioner, will be held tonight in Samuel's Grande Manor, 8750 Main St., Clarence. The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. The tab will be $30 at the door and includes food and refreshments.

Chella, who retired Jan. 9, began as a beat cop at the old Precinct 6 Station on Main Street.


DEADLINE NEARS -- The Young Miss Buffalo Pageant, to be held Aug. 6, is seeking contestants who will be between 13 and 17 years old on July 1. They must be American citizens who have lived in Buffalo for at least six months and who attend middle school or high school.

The Young Miss Buffalo Pageant Scholarship & Enrichment Program offers a six-month program "to empower young ladies to reach beyond their own comfort zones through a process of healthy nurturing from the inside out."

Fifteen to 20 young women will attend a series of personal development workshops, most of them on Saturdays. They will attend various cultural events and will be required to complete 25 hours of community service. The application deadline is Feb. 16. For information, contact Yolanda Wood at 602-9781.
