United Way $2 million behind last year's drive
The United Way of Buffalo & Erie County has raised $15.2 million in pledges toward its annual Community Care Campaign, officials announced during a luncheon Wednesday in the Buffalo Convention Center.
The amount is about $2 million less than what was raised in 2004-2005. The campaign will continue through March 31, the end of United Way's fiscal year.
United Way officials estimate a total of $1.2 million in pledges from last year have yet to be committed. They also knew at the beginning of this campaign that corporate and job losses could set their fund raising back by as much as $1 million from last year's total.
More than 500 people attended the "Campaign Celebration Lunch," during which Sam Savarino, campaign co-chairman, thanked everyone who has helped bring the campaign to this point.
