A judge Wednesday sentenced a Buffalo man to up to seven years in prison for two jewelry store robberies.
Jermale Williams, 19, of Paderewski Drive, insisted to Erie County Judge Timothy J. Drury he could get a Springville company to demonstrate how the grainy videotapes of two robberies had led to his misidentification by store personnel.
Jailed since a jury found him guilty of grand larceny Oct. 10, Williams told the judge he was sorry "for what happened but I didn't do it, I'm not a violent person."
Prosecutor Jeffrey P. DiPalma told the judge brazen crooks like Fowler are one of the reasons "so many shoppers are afraid to come downtown to shop."
The judge said he will schedule proceedings on restitution in the theft of about $3,000 worth of jewelry from Weisberg Jewelers on Court Street on Dec. 3, 2004, and New Generation Jewelers on Main Street on Dec. 10, 2004.
