Stephen A. Coplai of West Seneca, an Army veteran and retired mail carrier, died Dec. 23 at home after a long illness. He was 73.
Born in Orchard Park, Mr. Coplai lived there until moving to West Seneca in 1989. He was a 1950 graduate of Orchard Park High School and attended Michigan State University.
Mr. Coplai served in the Army from 1950 to 1955, and in the Army Reserves for five years after that.
He worked as a letter carrier in Orchard Park from 1960 until his retirement in 1990. He subsequently worked for Valley View Nurseries and Curbell Industries.
Mr. Coplai enjoyed reading, camping, fishing and gardening, as well as his annual mid-winter trips to Florida or South Carolina.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, the former Jodi Hubbard; a daughter, Pamela Ingelfinger of East Aurora; two sons, Stephen E. of Hamburg and Timothy of Luthersville, Md.; two brothers, David of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Thomas of Waynesboro, Va.; and seven grandsons.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at noon Feb. 4 in St. John Vianney School cafeteria, 2950 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park.
