Robert H. Simpson Jr. of Angola, a retired sheet metal worker and World War II veteran, died unexpectedly Dec. 24 in his home. He was 85.
The Irondequoit native was an Army sergeant, serving during the war in France and Africa.
He was active in Post 5798, Veterans of Foreign War, Evans, serving as chaplain for many years; and Newcomb Long Post 928, American Legion, Angola, where he was a past commander.
Mr. Simpson was an avid gardener who also loved animals.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, the former Ida Alpaugh; a daughter, Sandra Grassia of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Albert of Rowlett, Texas, and Richard of Buffalo; four sisters, Jean Freece of East Rochester, Joan Schultz and Gail Cometa, both of Rochester, and Allison Bingenheimer of Hamburg; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Forest Avenue Cemetery, Angola.
