Man sought in robbery of drugs from pharmacy
Town of Hamburg police are looking for a man believed desperate for drugs who robbed a Lake Shore Road pharmacy of a quantity of prescription painkillers.
"We believe he is a very desperate person who is liable to do anything," Capt. A. Daniel Shea, chief of detectives, said Wednesday. "He never asked for money; he just wanted drugs."
The man entered Brooks Pharmacy, 4481 Lake Shore Road, shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday and asked the pharmacist the price of OxyContin, a powerful painkiller.
He then went next door to Surfside Pizzeria, placed a food order and asked for a paper bag.
He returned to the pharmacy, opened his coat and displayed what appeared to be a semiautomatic pistol, then demanded OxyContin.
The rattled pharmacist instead put about 16 bottles of methadone pills -- about 1,600 pills -- into the bag, and the robber fled, possibly in a blue, older model four-door vehicle.
