Joseph Sceusa, retired Benderson executive May 28, 1925 -- Dec. 26, 2005

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph G. Sceusa of the Town of Tonawanda, retired business manager for Benderson Development Co., will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 150 Broad St. at Clinton Park, City of Tonawanda. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.

Mr. Sceusa died Monday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a lengthy illness. He was 80. He had been living at the Weinberg Campus in Getzville.

Born on the West Side of Buffalo, he graduated from Little Seminary High School and attended St. Bonaventure University. During World War II, he served as a first sergeant in the Marine Corps.

He worked for Harvest Markets from 1966 to 1973 and then was a business manager for Benderson Development until his retirement in 1991.

Mr. Sceusa was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and the Holy Name Society of Cardinal O'Hara High School. He also was a director of Junior Achievement.

His wife, Rae Pillichette Sceusa, died in 2000.

Survivors include two daughters, Maria Szortyka of the Town of Tonawanda and Roseann Allen of Wheatfield; a son, Joseph M. of the Town of Tonawanda; two sisters, Clara Leon and Marietta, both of Buffalo; a brother, Frank of Sarasota, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
