ABOUT THE FALLS -- A five-session course with slides of the history of Niagara Falls will be taught by Bonnie G. Flickinger, Ph.D., from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, starting Jan. 10 and continuing through Feb. 8.

The course will include discussions of paintings as well as the intrigue and machinations in Joyce Carol Oates' novel "The Falls." Class sessions will be in the Larkin Center, 65 Lincoln Parkway at 100 Forest Ave.

BIG DOINGS -- Canadian Friendship Week will be observed next week in Ellicottville.

The Ellicottville Winter Blues Festival, featuring some of the best blues bands in Western New York, will take place Jan. 6 and 7 at a number of bars and restaurants . . .

"GOOD NEIGHBOR" -- Dave Marmon will be maitre d' Wednesday evening at "A Victorian Christmas" in Lockport's red brick home.

The five-course Victorian splendor dinner in the 1823 National Register home will be prepared by David Cohen of Mr. and Mrs. Catering. It will be served in the home's formal dining room on bone china.

Six lucky couples won the all-expense-paid catered dinner at the Col. William Bond House (1823-1824) in a random drawing of raffle tickets that cost $5 each. A tour of the decorated museum house at 143 Ontario St. is included in the evening's festivities.

Money raised from the raffle tickets sold until Dec. 19 will be used to finance the society's programs. . . .

MILITARY NOTE -- Army National Guard Sgt. Joseph J. Buscaglia, a 1994 graduate of South Park High School, participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom, according to Army and Air Force Hometown News.

Buscaglia, a medical specialist with 13 years of military service, is the son of Joseph and Patricia Buscaglia of Buffalo. He is assigned to the 69th Infantry. . . .
