Ines T. Byrd of Amherst, a health care provider of 40 years, died Thursday in Sisters Hospital after a long illness. She was 87.
Born Ines T. Williams in Aiken, S.C., she moved to Buffalo and graduated from Hutchinson-Central High School. She also attended beauty school and nursing school.
For four decades, she worked as a home health care provider, often working with people with disabilities. She worked at Linwood House, West Seneca Developmental Center and Roswell Park Cancer Institute before establishing her own group home in Flint, Mich., in the early 1970s. She retired in 1985 and returned to Buffalo.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Hutcherson of Buffalo; a son, Jerome G. of Amherst; a sister, Louise Johnson of Philadelphia; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Forest Lawn Chapel.
Entombment will be in Forest Lawn's Rosewood Mausoleum.
