Will North drops St. Joe's

Here's a sign of just how close the competition is in the Western New York Varsity Hockey Federation this season -- it took defending champion Williamsville North three tries to secure its first win of the season.

But the Spartans snapped St. Joe's six-game winning streak, 3-1. Goalie Jordan Komm turned aside 27 shots for the win, while Ryan Geary, Justin Kochan and Pat Mulvihill scored.

Elsewhere, Alex Durinka scored Williamsville East's second and third goals in its 3-1 win over Canisius. Anthony Clair had two assists for the Flames. . . . Mike Bloom scored twice and Vinny Caputi added a third in the final seconds of the second period as Williamsville South beat Frontier, 4-1. . . . Scott Moser had two goals and two assists and Nick Panepinto had a pair of goals and an assist during Kenmore West's 4-2 win over Timon-St. Jude.
